The Art of Lasting Comfort.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

What is Botox for Hyperhidrosis?

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an injectable treatment approved by the FDA for the treatment of severe primary axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis, a condition of excessive sweating that is not controlled by topical treatments.

Botox is a purified neurotoxin that works by temporarily blocking the chemical signal (acetylcholine) from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When injected shallowly into the treatment area (most commonly the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet), it effectively ‘turns off’ the overactive sweat glands, resulting in a dramatic reduction of excessive sweating.

Who Is This Treatment For?

Botox is designed for patients with a clinical diagnosis of excessive, persistent sweating. This treatment is ideal if you want to:

  • Treat Severe Sweating: If you suffer from excessive, uncontrollable sweating that significantly interferes with your daily activities, social life, and emotional well-being.
  • Stop Topical Treatment Failure: If you have tried and failed to manage the condition using prescription-strength antiperspirants or other topical agents.
  • Restore Confidence & Comfort: To eliminate the physical discomfort and social anxiety associated with chronic wetness and staining of clothing.
  • Achieve Seasonal Control: For those who need a predictable, long-lasting solution, particularly during warmer months or high-stress periods.

Quick, Non-Surgical, Minimal Downtime

A simple in-clinic procedure with minimal interruption to your day. Get back to life immediately with a calmer, drier you.

Significant Reduction in Wetness:

Clinical studies consistently show that the treatment can reduce sweating by 82-87% within one week, providing life-changing relief for severe sufferers.

Improved Quality of Life:

Patients report a dramatic increase in self-confidence, a wider choice of clothing, and less worry about professional or social interactions, leading to better emotional health.

Long-Term Reliability:

A single treatment provides a reliable period of dryness that can last for many months, offering a predictable solution that does not require daily application of a product.

What to Expect

The treatment involves a series of small, shallow injections across the mapped-out area (e.g., the underarms). The entire procedure typically takes about 15–30 minutes.

Optional Numbing: For sensitive areas like the palms and soles, we may apply a topical anesthetic or use other methods to ensure maximum comfort. For underarms, the discomfort is usually minimal and well-tolerated.

Onset of Dryness: The effects are not instantaneous. You will typically begin to notice a decrease in sweating within 2–4 days, with the full, maximum effect visible at 10–14 days post-treatment.

Longevity: The relief is long-lasting, typically providing 4 to 12 months of dryness, though the average is around 6 to 7 months for the underarms. Repeat treatment is recommended once the sweating begins to gradually return.

Questions? Answers.

Yes, Botox is FDA-approved for the treatment of severe primary axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis. Its use for palms and soles is considered “off-label” but is widely practiced and highly effective.

No. Studies show that when Botox is used to treat hyperhidrosis in one area, it does not cause compensatory sweating (increased sweating in other areas of the body).

For underarms, patients typically report minor, manageable discomfort. For palms and soles, a local numbing agent is often used to ensure the procedure is comfortable.

We recommend shaving the area 24–48 hours before your appointment. You should also wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and avoid wearing any deodorant or antiperspirant to the appointment.

Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, or anything that causes excessive heat or sweating for the first 24 hours. You can return to all normal daily activities immediately.

On average, a single treatment for underarms provides relief for 6 to 7 months, though this can vary widely. Treatments for palms and soles may last for shorter periods.
